Luxury modernist inspired design

On a parcel of land that offers an elevated panorama from Arthurs Seat, across the Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron, over to Cameron’s Bight and the Portsea Coastline beyond, the house design could have been an obvious exploiting of the captivating views. But Fawkner House by Vibe Design Group is an exercise in restraint and vantage point strategy that delivers the dynamic bay aspects on its own terms.

The modernist inspired Street Elevation is heroed by a singular letterboxed shape, stretching wide across the front boundary – precise and linear. As the land rises to the southern corner the frame hovers weightless and mid-height over a gradient of pebbles like the receding Blairgowrie tide.

Michael and Kathryn brought a high level of integrity and professionalism while managing the full design process of our home, from an initial chat with Michael prior to purchasing the land through to the furniture procurement with Kathryn.

Atop the stairs you are met with a deep-set triangular deck, offsetting a whole house re-alignment, again linear but this time angled at the coastline. With views still denied a glass lined wall makes subtle suggestions, reflecting the swaying yacht masts of the marina. Recessed water features both guide and give ambience.

A solid battened entry door presents a polytec pod behind. The reward comes standing at the integrated wine cellar – library wall and fireplace one end, kitchen at the other and uninterrupted sweeping blue bay between.

The land called for an elevated pool with a significant drop away toward the rear boundary. The decision to raise it to the upper level cast both a challenge and opportunity. The colliding angles meet sharply at the pools infinity edge. Partly submerged, arms casually hanging over, it’s a steep drop to tree and rooftops and then coastline – even the city skyline on a clear day – this is the most breathtaking place to experience the view.

The solid volume of the pool at ground level is not to disadvantage with individual views cast at the lower bedrooms. Mid- height off the pool wall is a private deck area which appreciates the aspects differently again.

Vibe Design Group’s full design service encompassed the Interior Design with Bottega Oak feature cabinetry and wall panelling a key motif. Following through with the Furniture Curation and Styling, it’s the subtle olive-green hues and light barley leather that compliments the sharpness in the house design with a coastal elegant feel.

Presenting as striking and straight lined, it’s a succession of designed elements that truly tell the story of this home. Fawkner House by Vibe Design Group is decisive not only in form but also in the delivery of the experience.
