An elegant interpretation of the Australiana Farmhouse.
Maree Hyland.
A truly magnificent 100 Acre property set 61km to the South-East of Melbourne CBD.
The land slopes away to panoramic views, we soften the pool height out of ground with stepped Mt Gambier stone walls. The sundeck and pool a great place to enjoy the views beyond, minimal landscaping on approach to the house.
Both homes do not have a common wall, instead an exterior central block wall divides the projects leaving both very independent of one another.
Below: A view to the feature front entry of McCrae House 1 – private and secluded.
Jenni & Simon, Coburn House 1
This shot highlights everything we sort to achieve with the street façade of McCrae House 1, a minimal material palette that expresses the subtle cantilevers and inviting entry.
Sorrento Beach house is a reinterpretation of the traditional Australian Beach house. Corrugated metal roofing extends to an offset peak and projects outwards to shade the front façade.
Metal sheets to clad the roof are only interrupted by a sleek gutter system while a simple concrete chimney anchors this rear elevation. The whole house opens up to this private area surrounding the pool.
Our Shearwater Drive Mt Martha design had a very minimalistic view from the street, the garage with it’s integrated flush door appears as a simple black box.
We were fortunate enough to secure Dolphin Man by renowned sculptor Russell Petherbridge to take pride of place near the front pedestrian entry. This was made even more special when Russell delivered Dolphin Man to site himself. We had first viewed this artwork when it resided at the Qdos Gallery in Lorne.
The rear elevation of Shearwater Drive, Mt Martha has an amazing expansive view of Port Phillip Bay. This house was carefully designed and engineered to afford no structural elements interrupted the view.
Shearwater Drive Mt Martha: viewing out across the pool to the bay view beyond, timber privacy screens for occupants and neighbours alike; with large black aluminium fins affording the master bedroom privacy from the main living area.
A linear modernist design that uses the sloping west side to advantage by stepping the west wing down with the land while still maintaining connection to the pool zone.
Our Kelso project set in the streets of Cremorne, a short walk to the MCG under the Iconic Nylex clock, gave us an opportunity to introduce a street façade with a semi industrial appearance juxtaposed to the immediate neighbours old classic Victorians. Use the arrows below to see the slideshow.
Our Grange Rd Canterbury project is surrounded by picket fences and tree-lined streets, the pickets afford a level of privacy by only offering up a minimal view to the passerby. We have created a similar effect on the street façade using black panels in varying widths with glazing between.
A street level view with entry door open to the Port Phillip Bay, the batten feature disguises the garage door on this front façade.
On Kew House 1 & 2 the client brief was to create two dwellings on a single lot, we decided to make them very different in appearance. Most prominent in this shot is Kew House 1 designed with materials that will maintain their appearance over time. The front entry is internally clad with glass to reflect the trees and their movement in the sheltered space outside the front door. While the exterior of the entry and stairs are clad in bluestone; in this image you can see the copper box of Kew House 2 as it cantilevers over the driveway and sneaks a view to Yarra Park. Over time the copper will patina as will Kew House 2’s timber clad. They successfully sit as individual properties.
